#10、The Bay of Fundy


The Bay of Fundy is a large bay located on the Atlantic coast of North America, between the provinces of Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. It is renowned for its extreme tides, which can reach up to 16 meters (52 feet) in height. The Bay of Fundy is home to a variety of marine life, including whales, dolphins, seals, and seabirds.

The Bay of Fundy was formed by the last glacial period about 18,000 years ago. During this time, the sea level was much lower than it is today and the bay was a river valley. As the glaciers melted and sea levels rose, the river valley became flooded and formed what we now know as the Bay of Fundy.

The extreme tides in the Bay of Fundy are caused by its unique shape and location. The bay is shaped like a funnel with its narrowest point at its entrance near Nova Scotia’s Minas Basin. This shape causes an effect known as “funneling” which amplifies tidal movements as they enter and exit the bay. The tides are further amplified by the presence of several large islands in the bay which act as barriers to water movement.

The extreme tides in the Bay of Fundy create some unique phenomena such as tidal bores and whirlpools. A tidal bore occurs when incoming tide water rushes upriver against an outgoing current creating a wave that can reach heights up to 2 meters (6 feet). Whirlpools form when two opposing currents meet in an area with shallow water creating a spinning vortex that can be dangerous for boats or swimmers caught in them.

The extreme tides also create some interesting geological features such as mudflats and sandstone cliffs along its shoreline. These mudflats are exposed during low tide revealing vast areas covered with seaweed and other marine life that have adapted to living in these conditions. The sandstone cliffs along its shoreline have been carved out over time by wind, waves, ice, and rain creating dramatic formations such as Hopewell Rocks which are popular tourist attractions in New Brunswick’s Fundy National Park. 

The Bay of Fundy is also home to many species of fish including cod, haddock, mackerel, herring, pollock, halibut, sturgeon and salmon which make it an important fishing ground for both commercial fishermen and recreational anglers alike.

#8、Calgary Stampede


The Calgary Stampede is an annual rodeo, exhibition, and festival held every July in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
